Q: Does a Pit HAVE to be trained and socialized?
A: YES YES YES! If you fail to keep him trained and socialized properly you have a high chance of having a Pit who refuses to listen and can become aggressive towards other dogs.

Q: How should I keep him confined?
A: Always walk him on a leash, NEVER NEVER let him off no matter the circumstances. A 4-6ft high fence or an outdoor kennel is the best option for a Pit. When inside the home, a large cage to fit him once fully grown.

Q: Will a Pit make a good guard dog?
A: Yes and no. Will he bark at a stranger walking by? Yes. But will he lick that same stranger? Yes. Will he bark at the door bell or a knock on the door? Yes. Will he jump and lick on the person who rang the door bell? Yes. Now if a stranger enters your home (by force) then yes that Pit will become aggressive. Most will only put the person in a corner and hold them down until someone comes to help them. But they are known if provoked, to attack an intruder.

Q: Will a Pit do okay with my kids?
A: Absolutely! Most Pit Bulls LOVE children of any age. Pits have a very high pain tolerance and generally will endure the "abuse" young kids unintentionally dish out. But like with any other dog, it is best to supervise the interactions to avoid any problems. If you are bringing in an older Pit (over 2yrs of age) it is best to monitor every contact that Pit has with the child. If you bring home a Pit who has never been around an infant, when that infant cries it could startle the Pit causing him to react in an "aggressive" way. Most puppies will take to any infant, toddler, or big kid. Just watch those puppy teeth!!!

Q: Are Pits really as aggressive as the media says?
A: No, Pits are made out to be monsters when in reality they are the biggest baby you will ever find. 99% chance they wont be people aggressive. If you come across a dog that is aggressive towards people, 99% he was beaten, starved, or abused in some other way. You also have a 50/50% chance of him becoming animal aggressive. Pits love hunting small game. They see a squirrel or a cat run by... it just became lunch if they can catch it. Will they randomly attack the neighbors Yorkie? Most likely not. They are smart enough to know the difference between the neighbors dog and tomorrows dinner. If properly socialized they wont show signs of aggression toward any other dog. Some will have fears of "big" dogs as were other are scared of the little guys and will show aggression towards them. You must ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS keep a very close eye on your Pit if there will be any kind of animal near him.

All Pits are different... some love children, some are unsure of them and others are scared. Some Pits love all animals as others are determined to hunt them. If you plan to add a Pit to your family, you're making the right decision. Pits are loyal and eager to please. They will do everything in their power to put a smile on your face. They can be very goofy and outgoing as well as shy and laid back. They will wake you with kisses and curl up beside you at night. I've personally owned Pits since I was 8yrs old and out of every other dog breed that I've owned... These curious creatures have won my heart time and time again. Currently out of the 5 big babies I have now, Dutchess and Cyrus LOVE mud and getting dirty! They dig holes as if they expect they are going to find another world, and of course they are the ones who are white! Demon hates rain, snow, dirt, mud, everything. He is my pretty boy none the less. Angel LOVES snow! Not a big fan of rain but when it snows, it's impossible to get her to come back inside. Lady is the type where she's just along for the ride. She doesn't mind the rain and snow, doesn't get dirty too often though. All 5 amaze me everyday and it always gets better. I'm not going to lie, does it get stressful? Yea of course, I have 5 Pit Bulls! I deal with fights about once or twice a year and usually over something stupid or when a girl is in heat or theres a litter of new pups. But it doesn't matter what they did wrong they will fill your heart with so much joy to make up for the wrong that it's incredible. I am told constantly that my dogs are killers and they will turn on me and my children. Well... the only things my dogs kill are birds, squirrels, and bugs and you know what? I'm just fine with that as long as they don't bring it in the house. My kids... well my kids are boys. They jump, climb, bite, pinch, throw, kick, etc... the whole nine yards. Poor dogs sit there and go through it as if it's nothing. When the dogs have had enough they will hide behind me or my husband, put themselves in their cages or in the kitchen, and all in all only 2 of my dogs will use their heads to bump the kids out of the way. Considering what my kids do to them... these dogs are some soliders!!

For any person who is considering ownership of a Pit but isn't 100% sure if a Pit is right for them, I am asking you to spend 1 hour with any or all of my dogs and you will see for yourself that once you own a Pit... it's hard to go back to anything else.
